I am a former Girl Scout of troop 5005 (like way back in the day) and ever since I was a part of it, much of what it stands for has stayed with me. Even in college, I thought about starting an organization based off the promise and law of the Girl Scouts. I knew that if I ever had girl one day that I would want them to be part of the Girl Scout experience. Well, fast forward some years…the summer before my first daughter was to start kindergarten I was asking other moms at “get to know you events” if they knew or heard of a troop forming at our school. Most of the replies were, “No, but if you find out, please let me know!”.

Do you see where this is going?

The week before school started, there was a “Meet the Teacher” event, where I saw a Girl Scout interest table. I spoke to the representative for quite some time trying to get a better understanding of how a troop can get started. We exchanged information and she mentioned that she could create flyers and distribute them to all the kindergarten classes. I thought, this was a great step in the right direction and I could at least see who all would be interested. About 12 others responded to the flyers and I directed them how to sign up online and if they would be interested in leading. The school was new to our family so we hardly knew anyone. As school started a few months went by, I found my daughter finding it hard to make new friends and get connected.

I realized if this was going to happen this would be up to me to start it.
